Last member states give the green light for the CoV reconstruction plan

ORF.at, 28. Mai 2021 | On May 27, 2021, Austria and Poland were the last two EU states to approve the European Union’s extensive CoV reconstruction plan. This was reported by the ORF, among others.

After the parliaments of the two countries had given the reconstruction fund their green light, the 27 EU member states were able to complete the parliamentary approval process, said EU Budget Commissioner Johannes Hahn on Twitter. Now the reconstruction fund has to be ratified by the member states.

The reconstruction plan provides for loans and financial aid amounting to 672 billion euros, which, according to EU representatives, can be disbursed as early as July. “The aim is that the money should be paid out from the summer,” said Vice Commissioner Valdis Dombrowski on Saturday in Lisbon. The fund would particularly benefit Italy and Spain, the member states hardest hit by the coronavirus crisis. However, the payment of the funds is tied to strict criteria. At least 37 percent of the money must be invested in climate protection measures, and a further 20 percent in digitization.
